02 Lunar Girls Succeeding at Next Level

The 02 Lunar Girls team set a goal moving from their U14 year to U15 year to try and make the jump from bronze-level play to competing against premier-level competition. While this was an extremely lofty goal to accomplish in a single season, the girls fought hard at practices and games to always focus on taking things one step at a time toward improving. As they began to compete with premier-level teams last season, they gained confidence and eventually shocked many observers by winning their division of the Placer Girls Cup premier tournament last October.

Moving into their U16 season, the girls have maintained their push to play at a premier-level consistently, while taking the next step to competing with some of the top teams in the state and country. In May the girls were invited to play in the CRL College Showcase event in Sacramento where they had the opportunity to face off against the #9 and #15 ranked teams in the country.  A 2-0 loss to Ethos provided a learning opportunity, as the girls nearly tied the San Jose Earthquakes Girls Academy in their final game before a late PK call gave the Quakes the win.

The girls finished in second place at the Juventus Tournament of Champions in July, playing up an age division in U17 Premier.

They most recently played in the Central Valley Magic Cup in Morgan Hill against teams from the National Premier League-level. Despite being an underdog going in, the girls only lost one game (to eventual champion West Coast SC) and found success in beating Walnut Creek NPL, 1-0, and Pleasanton Rage NPL, 4-1. They finished in third place.
